How do you clean the grill grates ad why do they rust out whn grill is covered

If you are referring to the Viking cooking grids, SKU# 54911. You can use a wire or nylon bristle cleaning brush to clean them. Do Not use a scraper to on these grids. It will chip the porcelain exposing the steel wire inside. The only way these will rust is if the grids porcelain coating was removed and the steel wire is exposed to the elements which will in turn rust. That also means it's time to replace your grids.
