Hi! To ignite a grill, you need three pieces (unless you're just using a lighter). The ignition module creates the spark. The electrode sparks at the point of the burner. The wire connects the module to the electrode so the spark can travel to light the burner. In other words, yes you need an electrode. You also need a wire.
