when replacing battery in igniter, what is the order parts go in--contact point in cap , spring (small end to cap), battery (positive to cap)screw on??

That is going to depend of the manufacturer. If it doesn't work the way you think it should, turn the battery around and try it that way too. If it still doesn't work, you probably need a new igniter.
