Heat Distribution using Briquettes, Lava Rocks, & Ceramics...

In some grills ceramic or porcelain briquettes are used to disperse heat, as opposed to a metal plate. Heat dispersal is one of the reasons gas grills are superior to charcoal grills. Charcoal can burn at different temperatures producing hot spots and when food drippings hit the charcoal, it produces a flare-up. Porcelain briquettes, ceramic briquettes or lava rocks will ensure the heat is dispersed evenly and will not produce a flare-up when food drippings hit them. They are reusable, so clean up and preparation is much faster than with charcoal.

To use ceramics or briquettes, simply lay the briquette grate over the burners. Place a single layer of ceramics or briquettes over the grate, without overlapping them. Fire up the grill, and savor the convenience of these extended-use tools!
