I bought a new igniter and installed but it won’t ignite the gas. The open end goes toward the flame flat on the bottom? I didn’t see it sparking in the dark , just making the ticking noise. I switched bac to the old push button and could see it sparking but still wouldn’t lite the gas. What could be wrong? I also had bought a new burner. If I put a lighter to the burner it lights up immediately

Please give some advice.

Ignitor issues can be tricky but based on what you told me: Yes, this goes through the bottom casting of the grill with the open end facing the burner and the flat side on the bottom (so the threaded shaft goes down through the bottom of the grill). If you don't see a spark with the new ignitor it probaby means there is a short somewhere along the wire or at the connections where the electricity is finding some metal closer to spark to. You may use some electrical tape to seal any exposed metal. If you hear a clicking sound a spark is being created it is just not coming out where it is supposed to (the electrode). If you can see a spark using the old one it just means the gas is not getting to the spark.
